| 1) |
Create the new topic message that "goes with" the poll (How?), but do not submit the message, yet; keep the message creation form open.
| 2) |
At the bottom of the form, enter the question you want to ask in the Poll question text box.
Tip: The poll question is the subject of the poll. It is the question that participating respondents answer. This is required for the poll.
Example: What is the most effective way to communicate with members of Congress?
| 3) |
In the Poll option text box, type the first option that poll respondents can choose when answering the question; then click the Add option button.
Example: Telephone them.
An additional blank Poll option text box appears.
| 4) |
In the blank Poll option text box, repeat step 3 for each of the other answers you want to include in the poll.
| 5) |
In the Run poll for text box, type the number of days during which you want to the poll to run.
Note: After the specified time has passed, the results of the poll are displayed in the topic, and no one else can vote.
| 6) |
Click the Preview button to preview your message. Edit the text, as needed.
Note: You cannot see the poll in the preview; you can only see the primary part of the message that you wrote. However, you can edit your poll after submitting it. How?
| 7) |
Click the Submit button to post your message and poll.
| 8) |
At this point, a page appears, offering you the choice to either go to the forum index or to view your message and poll inside the topic. Click the link that corresponds to your preference.

Your poll appears at the top of the new topic message that you posted and looks something like this:
