| BBCode |
|
BBCode enables forum members to apply some basic formatting to their messages without knowing HTML. It uses a set of beginning and ending codes that you select or type in the message creation form to format words or phrases in your posts and Private Messages (bold, italics, color, quotation boxes, and so forth). The forum software then translates these codes into HTML when the message is posted. Because BBCode is easier to remember than HTML, many forum software programs use it. More info...

| Forum |
A forum is an Internet-based software program, derived from earlier "bulletin board services (BBS's), that fosters online information sharing and discussion. Unlike today's weblogs (blogs), forum participants can initiate new discussions (topics or "threads"), rather than merely responding to topics that the site owners post. Forums also differ from chat rooms and instant messaging services in that they deal with specific topics, rather than simply providing a place for personal exchanges about any topic.
Before posting messages, forum and blog participants should consider that their messages might be displayed publicly for many years.
On our web site, the word "forum" has two different meanings. It is used to refer to the entire discussion area of our web site; and it also refers to an area within the site where a specific subject matter is discussed and you can read, reply to, and create new topic messages. Some forums contain subforums to assist with topic organization.
