A profile is a customized group of information and preferences that each forum member enters and selects for his/her own specific account.
Your profile includes your e-mail address, username, and a wide variety of preferences that control some of the ways that the forum features "behave" after you log in.
It also controls how much information other members can (and cannot) see about you, such as your residential location, occupation, interests, and so forth. Unless you choose to hide your online status, it even shows members when you are logged into the forum and which topics you are currently browsing (for more information, see The "Who Is Online" Box).
Some of the information in your profile, such as the date on which you joined the forum, the number of messages that you have posted thus far, and a link to a list of all your messages, appears in your profile automatically. You cannot show, hide, or change this information; it is tracked and entered by the system.
You first enter your profile information when you register for the forum. (How?) In fact, the registration form for the forum is nearly identical to the form that you use to change your profile options. After you register for the forum and activate your account, you can change any of your profile options at any time. (How?)
Members of the forum can view each other's profiles by clicking the profile icon underneath each other's message posts (shown below) or by clicking on a member's linked username in the Memberlist or anywhere else throughout the forum (for more information, see Using the Memberlist or Viewing a Member's Profile).
 Note: You must log in to the forum for your profile options to take effect. (How?) If you do not log in, the system does not know who you are (your online status is "Guest"); therefore, the preferences that you set in your profile cannot be applied to your session.
